Paper Triangles has carved out a niche with major Hollywood Studios by producing cost-effective VR marketing trailers, such as the one for Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Conjuring 2. Founded by Frank Shi and Xuan Ng, they’re a great example of a new, agile, content creation company.
"We are a small company and didn't want to spend cash on a Big Iron render farm. We needed to be able to render at all hours and any day of the week to meet our client needs, Render Rocket has been great." said Frank.
Frank came out of the commercial and VFX world, so his CG pipeline is built on that foundation. However, Paper Triangles has added a lot of game studio philosophy to their work, in order to make use of the assets in other mediums such as AR and VR games. With Render Rocket’s different rendering modes (Test, Economy, and Normal), Paper Triangles is able to stretch their rendering budget across whole projects: "We render 4k, left and right eye, for 4 thousand frames per test. If you think about it, that is 8 thousand frames every time. We rendered a lot. But to us, this is much more effective for our clients, who want changes all the time, in terms of flexibility."
The Paper Triangle team, in collaboration with Sunnyboy Entertainment, works with Maya 2015/2017 with Vray, After Effects, Mettle Skybox and Substance Painter. In addition to The Conjuring 2 VR trailer, which has almost 7,000,000 views on YouTube, they have also completed another VR trailer for Warner Bros. (an upcoming horror film) as well as a VR trailer for Relativity’s Before I Wake. These VR projects are seen on YouTube, Facebook and the Samsung Gear VR Store. Between these cool VR projects, Paper Triangles has also produced Commercials and Product Launches.
